Wat Phra That Cho Hae

Dating back to the 19th century, the Wat Phra That Cho Hae temple is one of the most sacred sites in Northern Thailand.

Reached by climbing a set of stairs watched over by carvings of naga, the chapel building is decorated with a gilded wood ceiling, rococo pillars, and lotus-bud mosaics. However, the main attraction is the Phra Jao Than Jai Buddha, which is believed to boost fertility to the women who make offerings to it. The complex’s other main feature is the 33 meter tall golden pagoda, which is actually a shrine that houses a relic of hair from the Lord Buddha himself.
